SETTING YOUR HEART ARIGHT 2_SEEING THE INVISIBLE
Psalm 16:8 KJV: I have set the LORD always before me: because [he is] at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Notice again that it was David that set the Lord before him and not God. It was only after David did it, that God strengthened his will; but it was David that did it! That is why David had a different spirit from his brothers, in the way that Joshua and Caleb had a different spirit from the ten spies and the other people. It was a deliberate, personal decision, the scripture says, “I have set the Lord always before me!” We must do it deliberately. Then because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved! Of course it is physically impossible for God to be at David’s right hand! What David meant was that he was always looking to God at his right hand, by faith!
We see it another analogy in the Bible in:
Hebrews 11:27 KJV: By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Of course, you are not seeing God with your two physical eyes, God is invisible and not perceptible by the physical senses! But you see Him in your mind by faith!
Light has many definitions but one definition is “the energy that gives the ability to see.” Light is a form of energy. Just like you cannot see physical things if you don’t have physical light bouncing off an object and entering into your eyes, so also you cannot ‘see’ or perceive spiritual things if you don’t have spiritual light in your mind! That is the reason so many Christians are blind and is the reason why Apostle Paul prayed the prayer in:
Ephesians 1:18 AMP: having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones).
It is when there is spiritual light in your mind that you can set the Lord always before you. We cannot see Him that is invisible without spiritual light in our mind! That is why so many Christians are walking around in spiritual darkness. It does not mean that they are bad people or wizards or witches; it is rather an ignorance of spiritual realities, because there is none, or insufficient light in their minds, so they cannot ‘see’ God. And because they do not ‘see God’, they cannot set Him always before them; and when they don’t set Him always before them, they have not set their hearts aright! It is very crucial to understand this! Meditating in the scriptures is a vital aspect of the Christian walk which opens the door to the light of revelation knowledge. The secret to meditation is to pray in tongues frequently and read Bible daily to give the Holy Spirit material with which to enlighten your mind with spiritual light!
Meditating does not mean sitting down with the Bible 24 hours a day. We incorporate meditation into our daily lives. You may be preparing a meal, or be with your spouse watching television. The Holy Spirit then begins reminding you of a particular scripture and enlightening and speaking about it to you in your heart even while you are engaged in other natural pursuits! The objective is to do this all day long, meditating in His word day and night by the help of the Holy Spirit!
The law is the Ten Commandments. Before Moses, there was no Ten Commandments; the law had not been formalized, but there was a law! How did Abimelech know that it was against the law of God to sleep with Sarah, Abraham’s wife (Gen.20:5)? There was no formal law because at that time Moses had not even been born. There was no Ten Commandments and neither was there any law that said, ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery’. But when God appeared to Abimelech in a dream and told him that the woman he had taken was another man’s wife, Abimelech replied and said, “God you know that in the integrity of my heart I have done this, for he told me she was his sister!” This means that Abimelech knew through his conscience that it was against the law of God to take another man’s wife, even though there was no formally written law!
The scripture says:
Romans 2:14-15 KJV: For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another.
The point here is that God’s laws are already known to all human beings, which is why the Bible says that they have no excuse! Even though it may not be formalized, or may not have been written to you, but deep down, because you are made in the image and likeness of God, every human being, even in mankind’s fallen state, will know certain things are right and certain things are wrong! We call it conscience!
So even though they have not the law, they are doers of the Word. The scripture says that they have not the law, but they do by nature the things contained in the law. How can someone, who is not a “godly” person, do the law? We know the Law of Moses is difficult to do, but the Bible says that he fulfils ‘the essential requirements of the law written in their hearts [AMP]” by the mercy of God. And God shows mercy every day.
2 Chronicles 16:9 KJV: For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of [them] whose heart [is] perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
When people set their hearts aright by making the right choice, the mercy of God backs them to do what is right. That is why we have what Christians call ‘good unbelievers’. A ‘good unbeliever’ will not smoke, nor drink alcohol; he will not womanize or steal from others. He is doing by nature the things that are contained in the law. Religious tags: Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, or Moslem, are unimportant and only cause contentions. What I, personally, and what God looks upon is the heart of the person (1Sam.16: 7).
When I meet people, I ask the Holy Spirit to show me their hearts! If the heart is right, they are already in contact with God. The Holy Ghost is working on the Gentiles’ hearts. They may not have or know the Bible, but God has written the law in their hearts, the law of conscience!
This scripture set me free when as a young Christian I considered our pagan fathers and forefathers before the missionaries came. Christians that are unlearned and unstable, may conclude that all such people went to hell, but this is not true! The scripture reveals that God worked in their hearts, before the gospel of the Lord Jesus came!
People who heard the gospel and rejected it will go to hell; but the ones who did not hear God will judge them by the law of conscience; otherwise, God would be unrighteous, which He is not!
This is one of the reasons why the Lord Jesus had to go preach the gospel to the spirits in prison; in Abraham’s bosom (1Pet.3: 18-20; Lk.16:19-31), where they were kept pending the time the Lord Jesus would come. And when He did, He fulfilled the law they had been obeying in their hearts, and took them to heaven!
In every human heart, judgment is going on constantly. This is true for both Christians and sinners. What we do with this judgment: whether we make the right choice at the heart level is most important? Guarding your heart to do righteousness is the most precious thing you can do for yourself as a Christian (Prov.4:23)! When your heart, or conscience, tells you to do the right thing, you do it. Agree with God and set your will to obey. You may not have the power and strength to do everything perfectly, but once you set your will and ask God to give you mercy and grace to obey, He will help you. If God is willing to help an unbeliever, how much more His children? Starting today, determine to set your heart deliberately and consciously in line with what Holy Spirit tells you, in line with the Word of God and you will be pleasantly amazed how the Lord will help you!
